I read the book A Year with God by R.P. Nettlehorst as a book review for BookSneeze.com. There are a lot of different types of devotional books on the market these days. I was excited to get this one, start reading it and see what Nettelhorst had to offer. Unfortunately, I came away pretty disappointed. Although the layout of the book is good; he puts it in topical categories in order for you to pick out the type of devo that you would like to read that day, and he uses different versions of the Bible instead of just sticking with one which is nice; but the actual content of the explanation of the verses was not well done. I normally think of a devotional as a written piece of literature that has something in it to inspire you or make you think specifically about a certain topic which you can take throughout your day and meditate on. Very few of the entries did this for me. There was a lot of interesting historical data, and I don't think he ever says anything wrong, it was more just a lack of deeper spiritual understanding that I could take with me through my day. I'm sure there are people out there who will love this book but it just wasn't for me. So leaving this one a little disappointed and hoping for better luck next time.
