Go Saints Go!!!

Growing up, I have to admit, I was never really a football fan. Mostly because, well, my family always rooted for the Saints and they ALWAYS lost and (in my little girl mind) everyone would just be mad and in a grumpy mood for the rest of the day. So, I never really liked the Saints that much until, well... after August 29, 2005. Some of you probably don't even remember what happened that day, but it is a day that I (and many others) will never forget. It is the day Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. My life will forever be defined as B.K. and A.K (Before Katrina and After Katrina). After that day, Rob and I decided to pack our bags and move on down to a place people were moving AWAY from. We had no jobs, no place to live, and no real plan. Just the conviction that this was a city in need, and we were called to be there.
When the Superdome reopened after the storm and the Saints played for the first time, there was a sense that this was the beginning. New Orleans will come back, it will be rebuilt. The Saints became so much more than just another football team to this city, they became a symbol of hope. As you can imagine, winning the NFC Championship was so much more than just a game. If you don't live here, I'm not sure you will ever understand what it meant to this city. New Orleans is coming back. We are coming back stronger than ever!
Can't believe I am writing a blog about the Saints. If you would have told me this 10 years ago, I don't think would have believed you. But I LOVE how this team has brought this city together and what it means to so many here. When the Saints won, my mom cried. (I know... not too surprising considering, well it is my mom.) But it was so much more than a game. She lost everything in the storm, the house I was born in, the pictures of us as children, the memories, everything was gone. And here is her team, she has rooted for for 42 years, through all those years of loosing! And they are going to the SUPERBOWL!!!! She is now in a house in a different neighborhood, rebuilding her life. We're coming back stronger than ever! NICE!
So, I can't say that I have been a huge Saints fan since the day I was born. But I am more of a Saints fan than I ever thought possible. Go Saints! Who dat!!!!
